Oishii Ringo

The title of this blog "oishii ringo" means delicious apple in Japanese. This is a little blog about food, cooking and eating. When it comes right down to it, don't get in between a girl and her food. "LAY OFF ME, I'M STARVING!!!"

Kaze Sushi

Zack and I wanted some good sushi so we decided to try out Kaze Sushi. Our friends Will and Fred recommended this place. Here's what we ordered:
  • Appetizer: deep-fried soft shell crab, avocado, radish sprouts, and dashi maki tamago wrapped in cucumber and unagi sauce
  • Soup: (i) nama wasabi cream soup with a touch of yuzu served with soft tofu, nameko mushrooms, and garnished with fresh raspberries and (ii) miso soup
  • Entrée: Cha soba (green tea buckwheat noodles) tossed with scallops, shrimp, aged olive, and olive cream sauce
  • Makimono: (i) "pink 2" - shrimp tempura, unagi, avocado, boiled asparagus, kanpyo, oshinko, tobiko, and mame nori and (ii) negi hamachi - chopped scallions with yellowtail wrapped with nori
  • Nigiri zushi: (i) Blue Fin tuna chutoro, (ii) salmon roe, (iii) sea urchin, and (iv) salmon topped with enoki mushrooms, Japanese white pepper, and truffle oil
  • Dessert: black sesame flan served in a slightly sweetened basil seed extract
garnished with fresh cherries and sugar candy
Overall, everthing was delicious and fresh. I especially liked the chilled wasabi soup. It was full of flavor and the tofu and nameko acted as a palate cleanser. The cha soba was also very good because of the olive cream sauce. The sushi pieces were fresh and appetizing as well. The only set back was the fact that they were out of certain types of fish on the menu like saba and madai. I would definitely go back again.
